Dream Moving From an Apartment / for Jim
I am in an almost empty apartment with a few people I know (though they are not people I know in waking life). We are totally cleaning out an apartment. I am not sure if it is my apartment.
Everyone has an overstuffed suitcase. I am carrying mine. It is extremely heavy, but I think I should be helpful and carry more. I turn to my left and standing slightly behind and beside me is an African man carrying a very large, overstuffed suitcase. I want to be more helpful, but I know I cannot carry one more thing because I have already tried. It is too heavy. I simply am not strong enough.

Understanding
The dream opens up with the dreamer being in an apartment. Apartments usually symbolize temporary living spaces. (Although, it must be noted that there are people who never live in a home and always live in an apartment.)
Cleaning out the apartment points to a phase in development showing moving, change and reevaluating old attitudes and perceptions. There are other people involved in the project indicating that the dreamer, to some extent, as being with the collective. The dreamer lives in the United States. That country is deeply in a state of tremendous flux. Additionally, on the personal side all human beings carry a private story.
Everything in the living space is being cleaned out. Her suitcase is overstuffed and extremely heavy. Regardless of her desire to help, to carry more she simply cannot. This shows strength. The dreamer acknowledges her limits. The ego is handling all it can handle.
The dream is shining a light for the dreamer to help her see that she is ready to on continue to move forward into the next stage of her life. Old attitudes and behaviors may be pulling her back, but she is ready to move forward and must do so with discretion and attention to establishing boundary lines.
