Dreamer Recounts Her Dream

“It is my birthday. Friends are with me celebrating. It is a beautiful fall day. Everyone is having a good time. We go outside onto the porch to enjoy the weather and have some birthday cake.

The cake looks very pretty, beautifully decorated ——- just the kind I like. I am really happy and fell so lucky to be at this point in my life but when I look back and go to cut the cake, I am horrified. I scream and scream. There are big fat hairy spiders, maybe tarantulas, crawling all over the cake and the table. I wake up.

Explanation

The opening of the dream tells us were the dreamer is in her real life. She is at her own birthday party surrounded by friends on a beautiful day. We now need to ask and answer the question “What is a birthday party”?

A birthday party is a specific type of party. It usually is a gathering of friends and relatives that have come together to celebrate and mark the passing of another year in someone’s life.

Not everyone, however, is happy when faced with their birthday. The dream tells us that this is not the case for the dreamer. She finds herself happy and pleased to be at this point in her life.

THEN BANG

The dream picture suddenly and unexpectedly changes drastically. The cake is now crawling with large fat hairy spiders. The dream ends.
At this point what could be explored with the dreamer are her feelings about birthdays, aging, celebrations, tarantulas, and what is currently going on in her life. The answers to these questions could then be compared to the intrinsic stand alone meanings held by dream images.
This dream is telling the dreamer that when she finds herself in what should be a happy situation she instead finds something very frighting or that behind happiness danger is always lurking.
Additionally, it is highly unlikely that tarantulas would be found in New Jersey, the state where she lives.

At the dreamers choice the understanding of this dream leads to a more involved conversation.
