Dream

I stand in the kitchen of my former home, gazing out the window. The bamboo that once lined the side of the house, offering a natural screen of privacy, has been cut down to mere stumps. The stumps are surprisingly large, but the dense barrier they once formed is completely gone. Now, the neighbor’s house is fully exposed, so much so that I feel as if I could be sitting right at their dining room table.

When I lived there the bamboo had been very tall at least two stories, if not more. I feel sad. I am very surprised by this. I know the house is no longer mine but I still feel a bit sad.

Understanding

The dreamer feels a loss of the house and a loss of the privacy she once cherished.
