Couch On The Lawn

Dream

I am at the university where I work. I am the head of my department. I go outside and can’t find a good place to wait for my friend. I finally find a discarded couch or backseat of a car. It is dark leather and pretty beat up. I put my backpack down on the ground beside me. My about to be ex-husband comes and sits down next to me. We talk. (I don’t remember this part of the dream.)
When I go to get up I can’t find my shoes. Somehow all of my stuff is spread out over the ground. It is a big, big mess. The ground is soggy and muddy but I can see green grass underneath.
I somehow find my shoes and put them on. I go to stand up but sink into the mud. I am very confused and a little frightened. I don’t know what to do.

Understanding the Dream

This dreamer finds herself outside the building where she works. She is sitting on a junked car seat or a discarded couch. This is in and of itself not impossible but a professor would usually be more inclined to find a better place to sit. She is at the end of a once committed relationship. She then discovers she has no shoes and her belongings are scattered on the ground. She stands and sinks into the mud. She is not sure she can walk.
This dreamer is not inside the safety of her work place where her position is established. The “mythical forever marriage” has proven to be false and she finds she has no shoes. How does she move forward without shoes? The dream is pointing to the fact that the dreamer seems to have lost some ego strength. She needs to reassess her life, her strengths, and focus on the grass under neath her feet. It may be muddied but it is still strong, green, and growing.
