Stranger In My Bed

Dream

In my dream I am in my house. It’s late. I get into bed with my boyfriend. He is already asleep. We have been together for a long time. I really love him. He wakes up. We kiss, he puts his arm around me, and we fall asleep. I think I have been sleeping for a while when I wake up. My boyfriend turns to me but he is somebody else. He is much bigger and looks very dangerous. I am bewildered and scared to death. He grabs me. I push him away, jump out of bed and hit him hard in the head with a book. I run away.

Understanding the Dream

The opening of the dream tells the dreamer where she is. She is in her bedroom.

Question ——- What is a bedroom?

A bedroom is usually a private place. A place where one rests, sleeps, gets dressed, undressed, makes love, and prepares for a new day. (This information sets the stage. It begins to tell the dreamer what movie ( so to speak ——- she is in).

Initially the dreamer finds herself in a familiar situation. One can safely assume that in the past she has found her bedroom to be safe. She is also with the man she knows and loves.

Suddenly, without warning everything changes. Her bedroom, a private safe place, is no longer safe and cannot be trusted. Additionally, the man she loves has somehow disappeared and has been replaced by a dangerously looking stranger.

The dream is asking the dreamer to question herself. Has she misread her lover, his feelings, and his character and/or does she subjectively project danger onto situations where none exists, especially intimate situations?

Questions to explore ——-

In waking reality is the dreamer ‘s lover not what she believes him to be?

Does she tend to project negativity and danger where it does not exist?

In the past has the dreamer’s lover proved to be a person who would hurt her?

In conversation with the dreamer the answers to these questions would be explored. This information

is important to understanding the dream.

Whatever the outcome, the dream tells us that the dreamer will survive.

The dream extends an invitation to the dreamer to explore her feelings about past experiences in

intimidate relationships. Perhaps, due to some negative situations in her past that caused her much

pain and disappointment, she now tends to project danger and potential harm where none exists.

The dream also informs the dreamer that that she is strong, can fight back, and will survive.
